Default A couple of questions regarding SIMPLE IRAs

Hello. I just now joined this forum in hopes of finding a couple of answers. My company is very small; just me and my boss. I asked him these questions, and he admitted that he really didn't know. I signed up for a SIMPLE IRA that my boss offered me at the beginning of this year. I don't know if it is okay or not to mention financial institutions' names on this forum, so I will play it safe, and not do so. I don't really care for the company that my SIMPLE IRA is with. For one thing, I can't do anything online. I have to contact our advisor to make any kind of changes. I also don't like that we are charged an annual maintenance fee. That is actually my first question: Do they all charge a fee, and I just have to live with that? My boss thinks (but is not sure) that I could move my SIMPLE IRA to any company I want, and he would still be able to provide the company match. If I can, I was thinking of moving to the same company that handles my wife's 401(k). We are able to do whatever we want with her account online, and she is never charged any fees. That is my second question: Can I move my SIMPLE IRA wherever I want, and my boss will still be able to provide the company match? Thank you to all who take the time to reply.

Well... not exactly the busiest forum in the world, is it? Thanks anyway; I will find my answer elsewhere

Sorry nobody responded.

But if you read this you can move your simple IRA to any company you want to. There are plenty that provide online access with no annual fee. Just make sure you know the underlying expenses for the investments, they may be higher than the company you currently have. If you need more help let me know.

You need to wait 2 years from the date of your first contribution to move monies from a Simple IRA without incurring the 25% penalty. The only exception is if you want to go from Simple to Simple, in which case there is no issue.

You may want to go with a SEP IRA. It is a much more friendly plan in many ways.
