When you're looking for a new bank, it can be hard to distinguish the differences (as others have mentioned), since pretty much every single one has fees and catches to them. I suggest looking into banks that offer something back to the community. There are several banks that are environmentally aware and/or conscious of community development. It's nice to find a bank that understands corporate social responsibility and makes you feel good about joining.

Since the american banks are not doing so well these days, switching to foreign banks might sounds like a good idea! For example, HSBC, Credit swisse.
