Default Bank Comparison

I have narrowed my search down to brick banks with online services. How can I differentiate one brick bank from another.

It is between WaMu, Citi and Bank of America

Thanks.

No one can really tell you which bank is better than the other, especially among the big banks. No bank is perfect. They all have their share of fees and unhappy customers.

I think the best way to choose is by using the bank with the best customer service.

Citi and BoA are just big players, not much difference between them, WaMu is easier in customer service if you only need retail banking

FWIW- I have had very bad experiences with BofA as have many people that I know. I went with them back when they were Nations Bank in the Baltimore market. After the BofA merger, their fees became insane. I have had similar problems with M&T as I was an AllFirst customer before M&T purchased them. Within a year M&T started to charge fee after fee for items that had NEVER been charged before and on two seperate items with no prior notice.

From that point on, I only do my retail banking with a credit union. The credit unions tend to support the customer much more than a commercial bank. I do however deal with ING Direct for long term savings, ETRADE for long term savings and mutual funds, and Wachovia for a trust. I am very happy with all of them.

I agree with James, I'm an ING member and credit union member as well. I was originally with WAMU but they made a few errors with my account that they refused to correct (although I know that a lot of other people have had good experiences with WAMU). I guess the over-drafting fees are how they make all their money, you know.

The banks work together anyway. The important part is your privacy and security.

The bank you choose should reflect your needs.

A business cash advance converts your future credit card receipts into cash now! Did you know that most banks require a huge investment of time to even be considered for a small business loan. Over 60% -70% of those who apply are declined for a small business loan.

The major differences between our credit card factoring program and a bank loan is that:
It is much easier to get approved
It takes only 48 hours to get the money in your bank after approval
There are no restriction on the use of the money
We are typically paid back in 6 months (banks loans take years to repay)

You might find that you are happier with a smaller community bank. First Bank of Wide Place in the Road Vermont, for example. Two or three branches at most. They might even bring you soup when you're sick and can't get in to make a deposit in person.

When you're looking for a new bank, it can be hard to distinguish the differences (as others have mentioned), since pretty much every single one has fees and catches to them. I suggest looking into banks that offer something back to the community. There are several banks that are environmentally aware and/or conscious of community development. It's nice to find a bank that understands corporate social responsibility and makes you feel good about joining.

Since the american banks are not doing so well these days, switching to foreign banks might sounds like a good idea! For example, HSBC, Credit swisse.
