i havent read all the post yet and dont know if any1 has said this yet but why not put money in a cd etc. account and then after whatever period invest the money in a goverment savings bond first of all there is no risk since its the goverment and you get high intrest rate. the only risk is if you sell it before the agreed return date but i would not trust me too much on this.

Yes, I've been very hesitant to do CDs. I'm not sure why... we don't really need the liquidity, but there's just something about them that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

If $25 is your limit, I would put it in a jar and keep it in the kitchen cabinet. If you are running that close, you are in trouble if you break a shoelace. Next, I would get a second job to start saving more money. Wait tables, deliver pizzas, Wal-Mart, something... |

I would suggest a high interest savings account like Etrade Complete Sacings. It use to pay about 5% but is at around 3.5% since the Fed has cut interest rates so much.

I agree, if $25 is the best you can save monthly, you need a change (cut expenses, increase earnings or both). |

A 2nd job would be a good idea...but will you be spending that paycheck instead of saving? I think you need to put money aside into a savings right at payday time, and dont touch it.
