Default Big time dilema!

OK, I've been unemployed over a year and my unemployment checks are running out in 3 weeks. I have a $400 car payment and a $422 a month committment with a debt consolidation company to pay off 4 credit cards over the next 3 yrs. I've filled out 3 job applications and I'm not hearing back. I joined a temp agency and they're telling me that its slow, the slowest its been in years. I can believe that. I can't pay $800 a month on my own for these payments. I don't want to go bankrupt in case I want to buy a house someday, I don't want to wreck my credit score. I heard you can get a lawyer or an accountant to write a "hardship letter" to creditors to write off your debt. Is this true??? I'm not a deadbeat, I'm just in a situation like everyone else. I need advice. Please help. Thank you.
