Entertainments blogs are popular but are very high competition. As with most nowadays on the net I guess.

Making money online is a pretty good niche to get into, so many people chasing the online dream of making millions....they're prepared to pay big bucks in the process too

Real estate has been a pretty hot topic for bloggers these days too - I know a lot of people are looking for the golden answer on if the market is going to turn around and when is the best time to buy/sell. Atleast thats what i've seen.

Blogging is all about what you like to do. You blog about what your passionate about. I personally blog about my online earnings etc. Which you can find at jeremiahcooper.com

Indeed whenever you create and start a blog, you have to be very passionate about your subject and dedicated to it as well. Otherwise, others will see right thru this and it will fail over time. Or worse never really start at all. Also once you decide on the subject you are passionate about, try to target a very niche market and keep it tight around that. Personally I blog about the equipment leasing and finance markets, since I am around them all day. I agree though you must be quite dedicated, but you need not stay completely on topic. Sometimes I jump off topic just because I find it important, like when the recent fires in California came quite close to my home office in Brea, CA.

The passionate subject is the hot subject. If you don't like what you do, you won't have any success so don't even try to blog jsut for a hot subject.

You have to post regularly to make a dent. You can emerge in any niche if you do enough work for it but if you want to drive traffic quick a less targeted niche is much easier.
