Default Caribbean Properties

Me and my husband are planning to buy a retirement home in Sanctuary Belize. Any thoughts?

Belize is a beautiful country; however, have you ever lived abroad? Ever visited Belize and I mean outside the walls of the resorts? If not do so before buying.

I've lived in South America and for me, there's no place like home (i.e., the US).

Before buying understand that the private property rights we have in the US are non-existent in Latin America. Sure you may sign a contract but they don't mean much down south.

Furthermore, Latin American governments change quicker than the wind. Often when they do you can bet that one of them will be spouting "Yankee go home" and repo foreigners' land and redistribute the wealth.

Sorry to rain on your parade (and I'm not trying to be a pessimistic); just trying to give you my opinion from prior experience.

I hope it helps.

Have to blow into a similar horn like Eugene, lived in Asia, Middle East, Europe and all over the Americas, only buy when you can afford to loose it. Belize is nice and prizes are rising and there are fraudsters who will try to trick you, so make sure you know what you are doing and with whom
