Default CC or Mortgage????

We have approx 50k in cc debt. Due to my husband not working (self-employed-business slow), we made hardship arrangements with our creditors so we could pay them something and stop the calls. Now my husband still isn't working and it's gotten worse. I took 8k out of my 401k in September to pay our back mortgage for 3 months, we tried the loan modification and it was a joke. We are now behind again on the mortgage and I have NO MONEY anywhere to use. Basically our incoming is $4k and outgoing is closer to 6k so we are in the hole 1500-2k every month. Bankruptcy is my absolute last resort and unfortunately our house is in no condition to sell(being remodeled for the last 5 years). I don't know what to do. I'm tempted to call the creditors back and cancel the arrangements but then if I don't pay then they will accumulate and we'll never get out of debt. I'm stuck and I don't know where to turn.

To me it sounds like you are living above your means. My suggestion is for you to try and work out a short sale on your house, which means it will take some time but stop paying on your mortgage today. They will have to take action faster if you do that. Also, your CC's can wait. Call them up and tell them you won't be paying for a while until you catch up on everything else. Then when it comes time they will be more willing to take a settlement of some type. Don't let anyone bully you. Also, your credit score will be killed, but in this situation who cares.

Look I am a debt management counselor, and may be you ask me how to change the oil in my car and I will tell you no idea ...
But you ask me about debt ... we have lot of stories to learn from.
So yes you need to create good financial habits ... and get rid of the bad ones
Do a budget to know your bills you need to adjust to this times if cable has to go has to go .... you need your peace of mind first. To keep going forward.
Save your home, loan Mod, Bankruptcy attorney but a good one.
CC forget about them... and don't settle for cheap arrangements.
If they sell your debt they will get 10 cents per dollars. So when they offer programs to pay in five years at low interest do the math you end up paying 3 times.
You need this money to invest in your self, in your family, in your future. You can help lot more people this way. The Credit cards companies have enough money ....
watch the move MAXED OUT... will show you the American banking system.
Keep reading this blog there is a lot of good information take notes create your own journal on how to get out of debt.
See you back

Find some nearby help from NFCC. Add a .org to that and you'll find them.

Best wishes,

Leo

P.S. Don't deal with any orgs that promise to help you with your debt if they don't get a link from that site.

P.P.S. What kind of business does your husband have?
