What do you want to know? Are you asking if cheap medical insurance is a good or bad option or are you asking if anyone can give a referral?

You get what you pay for.
New York is more expensive, and more difficult to do business in than most states, because of state regulations about required coverage. It may be easier to get insurance, but it is going to cost you a lot more, and there are many fewer choices in NY. |

If you are healthy, you can get decent insurance but with a high deductable. Then save an additional amount in an HSA account taxfree.
Example: Two years ago, I had insurance with a 7500 deductable for my family that cost 146 a month. In addition, I had a 5000 accident rider with an deductable of 100 dollars for 25.50. Then I would set aside 150 a month into an Health Savings Account taxfree and deductable. The 146 was to protect me from a catastropic illness or accident. The 25.50 dollar accident rider was to protect me from an expensive accident by paying the first 5000 of the 7500 insurance deductable. The 150 builds up and can be used to pay any out of pocket medical costs such as: office calls, deductables and etc. You don't have to get the rider or put money into the HSA. And you can also shop for a little less deductable, but with a higher premium. The good thing about the HSA is that, if you never use the money, it works like an IRA, you can take the money out at 59 1/2 and only pay the income tax. And you can also have some of it invested in Mutual Funds, but it is wise to keep some of it in more liquid investments like money market funds. Last edited by maat55; 04-07-2008 at 04:23 AM. |

Hi Maxy,
Some simple questions arise in my mind .. Ain't we surviving in this tough world only when our health is doing good? If so, aren't we supposed to value our health at per with our life? If both of these are our most precious assets..why do we spend cheaply to ensure these? Awaiting responses.. Regards, Jeff |
