Default Collections Agency not on Credit Report

Hi all, I've got an interesting problem I'm hoping you can assist with. I did a little searching here and elsewhere, but nothing quite speaks to this situation.

My fiancee was deliquent on her Citibank credit card and made an agreement to settle. She sent off her check to arrive when due ($400), but prior to the agreed date they sold her account to collections (Midland). Her check was then cashed by citibank. She disputed this information with both companies. Citibank apparently then considered the account paid as agreed and sent some money to Midland. Midland ended up sending her a refund check for $100. Currently, her credit report shows everything paid off, but "Northland Group, Inc" has sent her a letter listing the same citibank account number, saying she owes $363.14 and asking for a settlement of $134.36.

Should she contact this Northland Group, Inc to dispute the charge or ignore them, as they do not appear on her credit report?

never ignore, send them a detailed dispute letter saying the obligation was settled with Citibank and Midland at (date of check) and such has been confirmed by both of these entities as prooven by the credit file. If they send something again complain to the DA, there are groups out there who try to have people pay double.

i agree never ignore...it could appear on her credit report later...

with that said, it costs many so called "collection agencies" more to report it so they often don't do it...for example the company i work for we have a small collection department and often they threaten others that they would send their bills to credit bureaus but they rarely actually do it

but again you shouldn't take that chance

I work with many small lenders and small collection agencies who end up not reporting debt to credit agencies because of a few reasons

1. Reporting some loans, such as payday loans, are not accepted by credit agencies OR they are expensive to the lender\collection agency to report because they are considered high risk so it will cost them more.

2. Some collections end up finding out that the debt they bought isn't worth it and sell it back to the lender, and lender is not equipped to report you to credit agencies.

My suggestion is that, if that is a debt that is justified, then call the lender and make some sort of payment arrangement. If you think the debt is not justified, then let it go.

With a credit report playing such a large part of your life, you need to act on it.

Draw your evidence and produce it to them. They back off after that.

I have a similar question...

I have a citi card that is closed that I have been paying off for years.. sadly I've only been paying a little over the minimum, so I have still have a balance over $2k.. One day, about half a year ago, it just stopped appearing on all three of my credit reports. What does this mean? Did they write my debt off? I haven't been contacted by any collection agency regarding it.... Do I continue to pay citi?

any advice?

Are they still sending you a bill? Can you check your balance online?

If it disappeared from your credit report. That might just be a mistake in reporting.

Normally.. if it was charged off, it would be listed that way in your report.

If you were in good standing, then they would not have charged off the account.

Best thing to do is to continue making payments. But call to get an accurate balance.
