Trying do get a credit card from anywhere is impossible when you are disabled .....they do not have any plans for a genuine person who has no work details ..has anyone out there had the same problems?

You're kidding - they really do this in the USA??

In the UK the DDA prevents discrimination against people with disabilities.

Could it be that this is more a credit rating issue??

I would think so, Brian. Seraphone mentioned 'no work details' which would likely impact a credit rating. A definate rock and hard place issue. This person would likely have SSI or some oher disability income for repayment, but nothing shows up in the credit report. What a shame.

I'm not sure exactly what it is that you are asking. I assume that getting an unsecured card would be nearly impossible but there are other types of card, secured cards, that they could probably qualify for that have a limited spending amount. I have seen offers for these all the time and since I have horrible credit they flood my mail with them every few months (yeah paper shredder). No credit check or proof of employment you just have to pay the fee. Not saying this is necessarily a good option but it is an option.

A credit card is an extension of credit, otherwise known as a loan. If you do not have the income to pay them back, then they are not going to give you one. It does not have anything to do with being disabled, except financially.

Yes, if you want an actual credit card, you have to show proof of income so that you can pay them back. You can altenately choose to purchase a prepay credit card yourself. These work in the same way, but you pay the money up first so there's really no interest.

Folks with steady but limited income, regardless of the source, can get credit. If you follow the advice to pay your bills on time and pay off debt, you can build a good credit history, disabled or not. It's not work history as much as it is payment history and steady source of income that determines your eligibility for credit. How much your income is will have an effect on the amount of credit you can get, of course.

They're not. I used to work for an agency that helped people with disabilities manage their money. Because their bills were being paid on time and they had a steady income, many of these folks actually received pre-approved credit card offers in the mail. If the original poster knows of a disabled person who has been denied credit, it's probably something other than lack of work history that's the problem.

thanks for bringing that up, plumley. it's a relief to know that differently abled people get the support they need.

The USA is a great place for the government...not the people.
Sure there are other countries around the world that do not have the freedom Americans do, but we live in a place that is taking our rights and hurting us in such a covert hidden way while making the public and world "think" we have it good...the same way Germans thought they had it good when Hitler ran the show. It is all a sham, a huge blanket over the eyes and Programing everyone who lives here through the media we read and watch daily. Not so? Hmmm. Maybe you should look into why we are the ONLY country in the world who has 5 digit homicides a year when the majority of the world is in 2 or three digit. Canadians who live on the US border could easily see the difference in Americans.

People need to think for themselves and stop listening to what the TV or newspaper says.
