Default Credit Card in collections

Hello everyone. I have three credit cards. One of them completely up to day, no problems. The other two, i am behind on. When I first began having finanial problems, I called the credit card company and explained everything to them. They were very nice and just told me to pay what ever I could afford. That went on for a while. I found a job but with me also getting behind on other bills, I was unable to pay anymore on the credit cards than what I was. I got a call today from a collections agency. For some weird reason, even though the two credit cards are with the same company and I pay them both at the same time, they have only sent one into collections. They claim they didn't receive a payment from me last month but I did pay them. To make me even madder, the collections agency agreed right up front to alow me to continuing paying them what I was paying to begin with so... why did the company send my account to a collection agency just to have me pay the same thing?????

I am wondering though, I don't have all that much credit card debt. My credit card that is up to date, only owe about $600, one of the two credit cards I am behind on, I only owe $700, and the one that is now in collections, I only owe about 1500. Now that is a lot of money but not as bad as some people who I have read about. Also, I no longer live in the United States and also I do not plan to return. The credit card companies know what country I live in and knows my address. After all I wasn't trying to hide from them or anything. So my question is this. Can they really do anything to me over here? And if so, wouldn't it be more worth their while considering the relatively small amounts to just write off the debt than it would be for them to come after me in this foreign country and try to garnish my wages over here if they even can? I am just wondering how concerned I should be about all of this?

I would be careful there are a lot of collection agencies calling asking for your debt but they are not really representing your credit card company. It could be a scam. Call your credit card company to clarify and have them investigate it. And don't pay a penny to collection agency work with your credit card company directly.

Goodluck.
