Credit Card Refund by Check? Legal?

I charged my children's camp on my credit card. I decided to pull them out and asked for a refund. Six weeks have gone by and still no refund. I call the camp and they say they are issuing me a check by mail.

I always thought that was not legal? I thought if you put something on your credit card by law they had to refund your credit card...anyone know?

No...its much easier if they put it back on your credit card, but I have charged several items and got the money back in check or cash form.

Dispute the charge on your credit card.

The school/camp will get nailed for giving you cash for a refund - because this amounts to a cash advance. They would most likely be in violation of their merchant account agreement for not crediting back your card.

If you file a dispute, the money is generally credited back to you by the card issuer, and they deal with the school/camp (or merchant) directly.
