Default Credit cards??

Im turning 18 soon and im going to be doing some finacials moves....switching from my parents credit union to washington mutual checking/savings, opening an ING account, getting my own Firstrade account, and getting a credit card to start building credit.

Im wondering if id be approved for the Clear American Express card? no fees at all and low APR....also, automatic rewards.....

i could always get the Blue for students card as i am going to be in college but the "Clear" one sounds better...would i be approved? and would it hurt my credit to apply ad be denied that one?

EDIT - Want to start a Roth IRA too...

I had no problem getting a American Express while still in college. I think they profile college students though. 18 years old im not sure about. Sounds like you have a great start though with good credit!

Wow I applaud you for having a plan and making smart decisions with your money. I am not sure about if you would qualify for the card of not they would probably look at the total household income. It might not be a bad attitude to start with the blue student card and prove your credit worthiness but since credit card companies are always trying to get money they probably will give it to you but with a smaller limit to start off with.

As for getting rejected or applying for several cards at once card companies will consider that but I doubt it would have much of an impact.

I don't think that your credit history woul dbe hurt when you are still in college, but then do read the Terms and conditions beforehand.
