I'm 19, not in college, 2 jobs, and i decided at this point that i need to build up my credit. What's a good credit card for starters? How do i build up credit fast, and approximately how long does it take to get a good credit score? I tried to get my credit report, but was unable to because they have to credit history.
Thanks |

A Secured Card is like a savings account. You give the card issuer a deposit in the amount that you want your credit limit to be. They have limited risk on a new card holder because they already have your money. Also, you can't over charge. They won't let you. After 6 months, ask them to switch it to a regular card. That answers your question. But, if you're working two jobs, I don't know if getting a card is a good idea. With you working as much as you are, there may be a temptation to use the card to make things a bit easier for you or to use it because you think that you'll make enough in the next two weeks to pay the balance. My advice, use the card when you already have the money in your checking or savings account to pay the bill when it comes in. Pay your bill with money that you have earned in the PAST, not with money that you think you will earn in the FUTURE. Last edited by AllThingsPersonalFinance; 04-25-2008 at 02:58 AM. |

I can suggest Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express.
But the most important thing you should mention before applying for any credit card, is that it means however you borrow some money. And for future they will require you to pay it back. So be careful not to be overcharged. Besides, I recommend you to prefer those credit card companies with no joining fee and 0 annual fees. Good luck to you!
