Default Hard time

I have a Van that i owe 17k on .... out of warranty and needs a transmission wich will cost 3k to 5 k.... should i get a vehicle and let this one go. (reposses)... what will happen and how long to recover from this regarding my credit.

Would the trans fix the car? If so, I would probably get the trans. You said on your other post that your credit score is near 600. That is not good. You don't want to hurt it any further if you can help it.

What year is the van and what is your budget like? We need more info to really assist you.

Is the van actually worth 17K? Or close to it? If so, if the van is more than you can really afford, you might want to fix it up and try to sell and cut your losses that way, rather than take a credit hit. Esp. if you are divorcing. You will need good credit if you need to move, get a new mortgage or even rent a decent place.

value of the car is probably around 8000 to 10000 if fixed, man you need to drive this one a long time

The ethical and smart thing to do is to fix the transmission and then look at the private sale value with Kellybluebook. If it looks like you can sell it for at least 60% on what you owe on it, then sell it and take a loan out to settle the difference. In the meantime until you pay off this debt, you will need to buy a car for around $1000 just enough to get you by. Settle the debt before moving on in life with finances.
