I have an account at two different banks. I have my savings at one and my checking account at another.

I put my trust in one bank so naturally everything goes into it...hopefully it stays "alive" aka doesn't go bust.

Three for me. One for MMA, one for checking and savings and another for checking accounts.

We have multiple accounts open at one bank (2 business, 3 personal - our joint checking and personal checking, which will be combined with the husband gets home from the Army) and a savings account at the credit union.

I have 7 accounts if you include Paypal and Moneybookers.
-savings
-checking
-business
-checking
-checking
-Paypal
-MoneyBokers

It's all easy to maintain although only recently I don't like using both Paypal and Moneybookers.

Keeping your money in different banks, might be indeed a good idea in these uncertain times.

Since there is deposit insurance, as long as you're under that, you shouldn't have to worry about bank failure. Try to reduce the number of banking fees that you're currently paying if you're looking for a way to save money.
