Hello,
I really need some advice. I have been looking at financial planning books and all of the information is very overwhelming. Here is my situation: I am 27 years old. I have 1 credit card. I owe $10,000 dollars on this card. My monthly payment is $217.00 I have a school loan of $6,000. my monthly payment is $80.00 I work at a grocery store. I get paid $8.25 an hour. I only get about 12 hours a week. So I roughly make $4700 a year. Sad I know. I am looking for a new job but that is tough right now. I live with my parents and have no expenses. I only pay for my phone bill. My parents are getting tired of helping me with my CC and school loan bill. I dont blame them! My situation is making me sick and am really starting to feel trapped. My girlfriend and I want to get married someday and have a family. All of this seems hopeless. I am almost 30! I would greatly appreciate any help anybody has for me. Thank you for your time. |

EON:
You are far, far from being in BIG debt. Believe me. Most 27 year olds with student loans would love to have your debt situation. Certainly as a percentage of your income the debt looks huge but that is easily fixed. Make more money! You don't mention any health problems or anything that would prevent you from getting another job so that has to be PRIORITY #1. Start thinking like an entrepreneur. Head over to the library and get out books with titles like "1001 ways to make extra money." I don't know if that book exists but there are many out there like that. I saw a flyer here locally from someone who would do your shopping for you. Around here I'd love to find someone to shovel my parent's sidewalk when it snows. Opportunity is EVERYWHERE. Go get'em in 2010! |

Getting more income should be your main focus for right now. I know how you feel, I use to work at a grocery store myself. It is hard to do much planning making only $4700 a year. If you are having a hard time getting a job, try online jobs. There are also ways to make a little cash here and there. Such as making money from a hobby or a talent that you have. At this point, you have to get creative. Also, I have learned of some of the greatest opportunities that will be launching in 2010. Some these programs have the greatest earning potential. Once these have launched I will start advertising. I do encourage you however, to learn how to avoid getting into a lot of debt and then saving to increase your net worth.
