Default loan quistion

Hey everyone im new here, and i need some help.Im 20 I don't have any credit (unless a cell phone bill goes on it),and i need a car bad.So I was wondering if my mom who has realy good credit but dosnt work could cosign a loan.Or would'nt it help since she dosnt have a job.

Hi trapperj86 and welcome to The Finance Forums.

As for co-signing - certainly my own youngest brother did this a few years back, but it will depend on whether she has any credit rating in the first place.

Ideally, what you want to do is get yourself a credit card and use that to help build up a good credit rating, in my opinion, and work from there. IF you want that car bad enough, you'll wait until you're regarded as responsible enough to buy it yourself.

I agree with Brian's advice. However, your mom can certainly co-sign for your car if you need it in the near future.

That's a good question. I am not sure if she can cosign or not. If she doesn't have a job but has some other source of income I'm pretty sure she would. If she has no income it might be a little trickier.

Her lack of a job might make it impossible despite her high credit score.
