Default Need Your Help And Advice

Hi all,

I defaulted on my credit card two years ago and started paying back £40.00 a month just over a year ago through a debt collection agency (even though the debt is with Halifax visa). The outstanding debt was initially £2300.00 and is now £1800. The thing is that I can recall my credit limit on this account at the time only being £1500. I guess they have charged me nearly £1000 in charges or interest. Can anyone advice me on how I would gain information on charges applied to this account etc and how to get the charges knocked of the real amount owed. Your advice is really appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!!

Contact Halifax and get some statements from them, you could also talk with them about some kind of repayment plan so you won't have to file bankruptcy (may be different in the UK but in the USA they would rather work with you than not get paid)

I think I would contact them directly and have them send me a statement showing transactions/interest charges. They should be able to provide you this information.

The two replies that you have received so far are dead on! Get the statement and UK firms don't want you to default. They want your money so I am definitely willing to bet they will help.

If after looking at your statement and you find charges that should not be there, which is definitely possible. It actually happens to me a lot... unfortunately! Keeping your identity is really hard these days... but you can file for an investigation and have the company look at the information.

Good luck and let us know what happens.
