Default Now what?

The internet has a lot of info getting out of debt. The problem for me is trying to find solid and pragmatic advice if you finally accomplished a debt free existance.

I feel blessed to be 42 years of age and living a very middle class life with no debt. Of course we always have taxes and insurance and in my case the home assaciation fee. Also, I have taken the steps to max out my 401k allocation to the fed limit and am saving enough monthly for a maxed out IRA contribution "BUT"... whats next?

I am also concerned that my credit may suffer as a result of not having debt but at least there is equity to back me up. I may just bite the bullet and buy my wife that Escalade she wants but again I don't like to spend my money on that type of stuff. I like to keep the needs and the nice to haves very seperate... if you catch my drift.

I'm looking for all input and am looking forward to mixing it up here.

Wow, you're debt free and complaining?! I know there are definately lots of factors to consider in terms of maximizing your investments and savings. I think investing in real estage might be a good idea for you at this stage!

Hi HBombToo and welcome to The Finance Forums.

As for being concerned about not having debt affecting your credit - I think so long as you have significant assets then this won't be a problem. By that I am thinking in terms of property, etc.

I agree with Brian. I think having the assets counts more than the debt.

If you have credit accounts, even if they are unused, having no debt will not negtively impact your credit score because you won't be in danger of becoming a 'ghost' in seven years. Even a single Visa card that is never used will report a zero balance and no late payments to the credit reporting agencies.

Look, debt is an issue i know most might know very well, i dont believe that you should get into debt to begin with, and if you're already in it, get out.
