Default Real Estate License

I was just wondering, Do you think now would be a good time to get a realtor license? Here is my thinking:
market is in the tank right now, but everyone will have to have a place to live. Houses are for sale and while it is slow, I could just keep my day job. Then when the economy settles at where it wants to be, I will have had my license and some experience. This will put me above the new comers. I am willing to invest in my future now, as the cost is not very much.
The reason I post this question is, I want to make sure I haven't missed anything. I know I have to attend classes and take a test. I have to take on going classes every 4 years. I can do this in my spare time or as a part time job.

To be honest, I think this is a good idea.

Get in the qualifications now and preparations done now for when the markets finally rebound in a few years time.

I'm already doing this myself.

Its never a bad idea to invest in improving your own skills, I think this is a great idea. And as you mentioned, yah please make it a part time job for the moment. As at the peak of the housing market, everyone and their dog had a real estate license, these guys are eating each other alive right now. So competition is fierce. But they will fade away, and the time will come again. Good on you john, it will be a valuable skill in time.

I have a real estate license, in recent one year, the market brought me nothing, and I quit the job now, but I will do the real estate job again when the market back. You need to renew the license every two year , not four years.

It depends on what state you live in as far as the renewal. You can also definitely use the time to start putting the word out that you are working as a real estate agent on weekends. As you let friends and family know, and get your license set up with a broker, you could end up getting the friend deal and be on your way to your first referrals!
