Default Rediculous Chase fee. Can the do this?

Chase CC sent me checks to use, which I used one to go against another card. Later the check was returned because my account "was closed several months earlier" They have charged me $39 for a returned check and say they cannot reverse fees because the account is closed.

How can they send me checks on an account that is closed and get away with charging me a fee for using something they sent? Do I have any way to get out of this? I really am perplexed!

Was your credit card closed? If so why would you use them? If not, call Chase.

Wait, you knew the account was closed and you used the checks anyway? Did I get that right?
