Default Reducing APR?

I have one particular credit card that suddenly has an APR of 28.49%!!! What advice can you give me before I contact them about reducing it? I've thought of threatning to cancel and move the debt to a new card service at a lower APR, but what to stop new APR from getting out of control again? Please help!

How much debt do you have on the card? Consider applying for a new card with an low (even sometimes 0%) introductory rate and then transfer the balance. Then apply all free cash towards paying off the card. However, be sure to read the fine print to see what the rate will be after the introductory period is over. Typically, they will not raise your APR unless you have late payments or they notify you in writing.

try doing a balance transfer most of them offer 12 months zero balance, I believe that American express offers 4% balance transfer.

The best thing to do in this situation is a balance transfer. If you call you credit card company and ask for a reduction in rates they most likely will not do it. Best thing to do is cancel the card and move the balance to a card with a lower rate.

good luck...

Besides the balance transfer, as mentioned in the posts above, save money and pay off your cc so APR can't get out of control again.
