Default Renters Insurance in Florida

Wow, it was certainly hard to get renters insurance in Florida. I moved down here right as Ike was supposed to hit so NOBODY wanted to insure me. I finally found someone to do it but a lot of the big name companies have pulled completely out of insurance in Florida. Which really amazes me.

Default Re: Renters Insurance in Florida

Coop, homeowner's insurance in Florida is a waste of money.

None of the household names will write property insurance business and we're forced to use Citizen's which is pathetic.

I've sent premium into Citizen's only to have them "refund" a portion of the premium without any reason, then send no bill, then send a cancellation notice.

So you get that straightened out, pay the premium again, never receive the next bill, but they send another cancellation notice.

Citizen's is the state run property insurance company of last resort and it's a waste of money to send them one dime because they will never pay a claim if a major hurricane hit Florida and they even admit they don't have the money to pay that type of loss.

No clear thinking person would send premium dollars to any company who they know would not pay the claim.

It's actually comical that the lenders in Florida will require homeowners insurance with a company who everyone knows cannot pay their claims to "protect" the lender from a catastrophic loss.

So in Florida we must choose between paying for homeowner's insurance and not really having coverage or not paying for homeowner's insurance and not having coverage.
