My wife and I don't shop at Aldis (I would but she thinks that's a bad idea) but we estimate that going out to eat for us costs $30, compare that to the chili I made last night 10 servings for $7.00 or $1.40 for both of us, it will feed us for a week and saves us $143 were we to eat out every night.

Chili freezes well too so you can buy the ingredients on sale, make a lot, and still have a variety in your diet.

sleep in airports, don’t buy a TV - watch YouTube, raise your own chickens, don’t eat (fast once in a while), shave less often, turn out the lights (save electricity) & meditate in the dark (reduce your stress levels)

I know he's kidding, but what sort of things do you guys do to save money?
I do agree with you. I'm pretty thifty or tight, as my friends would say, but I do like a latte now and again. But there will always be extremes!

The good thing about cooking at home too, is you control the ingredients, so there's no inspecting the menu and having to tell anyone what you don't like, it's as spicy as you like it, has everything you like in it...I don't get excited about eating out anymore either. I recently went to a P.F. Changs for someones' birthday, it's an expensive chinese restaurant, granted the service was fantastic, I've had better food at home.

I haven't gone shopping for close in forever. Being female this has been really hard for me but it's been so worth it. I've managed to pay $20,000 of school debt off in 2 years and save about 5k on top of that.

We don't buy things when we actually need them. Instead, we anticipate what we are going to need and watch sales closely, check out online vendors, and wait for the best deal.

Also, this year we replaced ALL of our lightbulbs with energy efficient ones and have seen at least a 20% savings in electricity because of it.

Next, we're checking out some of the FlexFuel and Hybrid vehicles.

Just make sure you are changing for the right reasons. Do NOT have a financial planner/advisor help you with a budget. It is not their job to find money for you to save. They help because they want you to sacrifice today for your long-term goals. You have to find a balance between what you spend and what you save. Shoot for 15-20% savings rate, and don't don't don't put all of that in a 401k.

I also try to save money. I will never buy unusual things which are not necessary for me.

What you save and how you save it is a matter of personal choice. Life is about compromise. That applies to finances as well. Theoretically you could save money by getting rid of all your possessions, living in your car, not having a cell phone, not bathing every day and so on. Not a lifestyle I want to lead though.

You'll see comments on various PF sites criticizing people for keeping cell phones, cable TV, etc. when they're trying to get out of debt. Who the heck are they to criticize another person's choices? Are they living that guy's life? No, they're not.

If you want to maximize your savings and still live a lifestyle that you're comfortable with, you just need to understand the definitions of the words "need" and "want" and make your financial decisions accordingly.

Spend your time reading books on financial topics and you will benefit two ways. First you won't need a TV or have a cable bill. Second you will educate yourself in a short period of time and gain financial knowledge so you won't have to ask these types of questions.

That's a pretty interesting article. However, some of the measures do seem a bit extreme peter tross tend not to spend unless i have to. That way i can save up, though i will at one point spend it all at once.

I try to organize my day so I only have to drive one or two times instead of many doing errands. You would be surprised how much my gas bill has dropped.

Default Bad creditors take money

We get bad credit problems when we go beyond our means. Multiple personal needs hanging around modern lives make us to take loans paying which is always not possible in time. So, bad credit patch is always possible and this is quite common these days. However, as there is bad credit rating, there are ways to battle it. Here, bad credit personal loans allow you to have loans for any personal need and thus to combat your bad credit phase.

You can clip coupons, shop in clothing thrift stores like the Salvation Army, buy your food at discount food stores like Aldi's, look for discount gasoline stations, eat out at restaurants less often, pack your lunch to take to work, use your computer to watch TV ie. Hulu.com, cut down on your cell phone minutes or just get a go phone depending on your need, which is the real secret to saving money...need.
Sit down and ask yourself what you really need not what you want. We waste an large amount of money on stuff we think we need. Do your homework and you will be amazed on what you can save.

Buying in bulk is great for things that you use a lot and have room to store. Also, making sure your home is energy efficient though the use of insulation, proper windows, etc. Making coffee at home, comparing prices when buying things on the internet really pays off too.
