I wrote my own database in FileMaker (Quickbooks is too ugly and inflexible). It easily converts Excel spreadsheets and turns it into a real database that you can share easily as well as really chew on the data. Especially if you have a partner and need to invent ways to massage the numbers based on weird things like how much weight to give to "but I wined and dine the guy for a year before he hired us". Of course there are templates if you want to do things 'by the book'.
I supplement with Quicken for the bank interface as I'm too busy to create an interface for that.
