Default strange creditor behavior in court for summons

Recently I have been appearing in court over a summons for a CitiFinancial account. Two consecutive times the judge did not show up and our hearing was postponed. In the meantime, CitiFinancial tried to work out a payment plan with us but it was still out of our budget and we did not agree to it. Right before our next scheduled appearance, we received a letter in the mail from CitiFinancial saying the account was transferred to another CitiFinancial branch out of state in North Carolina (we live in Tennessee). The letter also stated that we will receive a new account number from this new CitiFinancial branch when the next statement arrives.
Does this make sense? Why would they do this? Could this be considered a good thing? I assumed they realized they weren’t going to be able to collect and sent it to another internal collector…? Can I get sued again by this new department at CitiFinancial? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
