Default US Bank Scam

I opened my account on 2/25/10 with US Bank. I had $3.65 in my account as of 4/12/10. In 2 months I was not sent a statement and was never contacted by them to see if they had my correct address. But on 4/29/10 they charge me $5 as a "return check fee". That overdrew my account by $1.35. Starting 5/5/10 they began charging me an overdraft fee of $8 a day. They have been very evasive in resolving my problem. I must have talked to a half a dozen different people always telling I have to talk to someone else. They do not return calls when they say they will. I even had one manager tell me they would stop the charges on 5/21/10 until it was resolved but they are still charging me these daily fees. Now the manger has a selective memory and says he does not remember ever saying that.

As of 6/9/10 they have now charged me $289 in fees which is 25,000% interest on $1.35. I have now put in a message to the district manger still with no resolution. This is turning into complete fraudulent charges at this point. It is also becoming surreal but I guess when it comes to the banking industry they have no morals or ethics. I'm only 19 but this is an eye opener to the banking industry. I'll certainly never trust them again!

WARNING: Do not do any business with US Bank as they will do their best to scam you if given the opportunity to do so!

Did you resolve the issue? If you didn't start printing out all e-mails and recording all calls. That way when they deny these things, you can threaten to sue. Then they will clean up the charges. I know a few people that have done this procedure before.

If they don't give, contact a lawyer with experience in unlawful banking transactions.

welcome to the world of US Bank, short of a hammer on the head its employees refuse using their head, you need to also complain to the local regulator, send all letters registered if you send one at all, I would look for legal counsel.

I did involve my dad and he was able to contact the district manager of the local US Banks and after speaking to him US Bank voided all the fees and restored my account to normal. The fees they charged me had reached $300 on $1.35 overdraft.

I'm sure thankful to my dad.

Thanks again for your support!

it sometimes helps to show them experience and confidence and know which buttons to push, hope you were with your dad on the call and learned a thing or two

I sure was. I listen to what he said and learned a lot. I learned a whole lot over this entire experience and I'm never going to let that happen again!

Hi,

I think the bank was telling you that it didn't really want your business with an account balance that low. It costs them way more that $3.65 each month to service your account (even if you do get electronic statements). Banks borrow lots and lots of money from the gov't and other banks at ridiculously low rates, it neither needs nor wants depositors money (of any amount really).

Most people would have paid the bill early and went away, which is what they wanted you to do with an account balance that low.

So my question is: Do you still have that bank account??

Best Wishes.

the bank does not want the business because of the low balance! hm a classic, they think once you got money you will forget bad treatment and come back; I hope you are not that way and forget this when you are settled.

As a result, banks are seeing tremendous growth in online service. One major commercial bank cited that in 2004, there were 3.4 million customers paying bills online, followed by an increase to 6 million online bill payers just a year later. Many bankers believe those kinds of increases are the result of services such as online bill pay that customers find most appealing.
Many first-time users come to online banking to access their account information such as account balances and check activity. That is followed by the ability to transfer funds between accounts. And finally, many users then move into online bill pay. Perhaps they start with paying a few utilities online at the utility's website. They may then look into the online bill pay service offered by their bank. Now, banks are seeing more and more users receiving bills electronically.

What the banks, like US Bank, don't seem to care about any longer is establishing a relationship with anyone for the long term. Banks today are unfortunately all about short term profits to keep their stock prices up. I am currently fighting with Citicorp, another one of the banks we bailed out to the tune of $20 Billion.
You may want to take your future business to a credit union. Credit Unions are usually, but not always, a lot smaller in size and give better one on one customer service. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Typical of the big mega banks like US Bank. I say find a nice local community bank or credit union after doing some research to find out if they don't have any unreasonable fees.
