I personally think the FICO score is a horrible way to determine credit worthiness. My wife has over 800 and I have a 750. We unfortunately are stuck playing the game for now until we no longer need credit to buy anything. Our goal for the future is to tear up our credit cards, we are already debt free, and pay off our mortgage. The only thing we will need credit for is a 15 year mortgage which we plan on going to an underwriter who doesn't use the FICO score to determine credit worthiness. The FICO score is stupid and is an "I love debt score". What doesn't make any sense about it is that if you don't use debt, but you have a high income, you don't have any debt except your house and you have a high net worth, your FICO score will be low. Does that make any sense??

Why would someone look to ask for other people's credit ratings?

You should have approached the question differently and asked for help to understand what your credit score means.

what is the difference in the score types? I know that FICO scores when getting a home loan you need to have a 720 out of a possible 850 total. Can someone explain the differences?

I also happen to be 25. mid 700's is impressive, I'm 698, still working on it.
My 2 cents for people who asked how do you get your credit so high when so young, well here's how I went about it. When I was 16 17, I began applying for credit cards. I finally was approved for one at age 18. I almost never used it. I would probably use it for about $1000 a year, and only when I could pay it back immediately. Then, when I reached the point where I could finance a car, and put a downpayment on a house: I QUIT USING CREDIT CARDS ALTOGETHER. Car and house payments build your credit score better than credit cards do, so once you have these things, don't even waste your time with credit cards unless you absolutely have to.

Wow! Such awesome scores!!! Right now I am a 648 at 26 in the USA- I maxed out my CC in college and have student loans, I think I was only late paying once or twice on the CC.... BUT, I am paying everything now, on time and more than I need to!!! That score will come up!!!

For all of you, who will view the post.
Credit score of an individual is exactly like the blood pressure of a human being.
It should not come down or go up. So a credit score is the banks BP measuring instrument.
Am I right?

Your leaving out those who don't care about credit scores, who dont' borrow money and buy everything with cash. Their score would drop to 0.

Well supposedly 680 is perfect and anything above and beyond that means you can basically get approved for whatever...

If you're looking in getting higher credit scores or are having problems with credit card debt i suggest you speak with a credit counselor and get some solid advice.

Where did you hear that? That might be average, but it isn't that good.

I don't think so...if you live in USA and looking for auto load, you must have at least 700 credit score for Prime or Elite class.

Thanks,

I just refi'd on my home and you must have at least a 740 to qualify for the best rates. Anything above doesn't matter.

I think 850 is the highest Fico score. I was mid- 700s, last time I checked.
