Default What kind of job can I get?

In this economy, there are just no jobs to be gotten.

My resume is practically blank. I've only had a handful of oddball jobs at fast food joints (I'm only 21) and work-study jobs. I have virtually no specialized skills (I'm actually in college right now to try and change that, but I don't have any skills right now), unless you consider a lot of trivial knowledge a "specialized skill."

I understand, this summer, fast food places and other hospitality-based companies will be hiring, but how can I possibly hope to compete with the thousands of people in my city alone who can do those jobs just as competently as I can?

What the hell am I supposed to do? What do I have that an employer can't find in a hundred other applicants? How am I supposed to stand out from the crowd?

the trick is to get there a. first, b. look confident and c. do not stand out with tatoo's etc. You will also find that sales are up a little bit in the high end products (seems the rich still do well)You have not said what you study and what "trivial" knowledge you have, if you are not afraid of work and have a clean record health care providers are looking for people they can abuse (yes its abuse with lots of work and minimum wages only) for the future get a certification in a job which is in your area of interest and it can sustain you over the college ears; there is work out there, difficult to find yes but never the less give it a try

Something you can do during this time to help you stand out on your resume(not sure if it'd really matter to fast food chains anyway) is to maybe volunteer your spare time to a non-profit organization so that they can see you're giving back to your community. You could do something cool like coaching an after school basketball league for kids at your local community park or even try to find internships.

The way you sound I wouldn't hire you either.

First step is realize we are all self-employed. You need to sell yourself. You need to convince the person across the table that they want you more then they want the money in their account. You need to convince them you are going to produce more money for them then they are going to spend on you. You need to show them you are valuable. You need to prove to them you are an asset. If they put you to work, they will gain more, substantially more then you cost them.

Think about any purchase you make. You make a either a conscious or subconscious decision that you want product X or service Y more then you want your money.

Make that employer want you more then they want their money!
