There are a lot of people who just have no knowledge whatsoever about personal finances and it gets them into financial trouble. I was curious as to how all of you gained your finance knowledge be it from parents, school, radio talk shows, etc. I'll start off and say that most of my finance knowledge comes from getting degrees in economics and business. Before that my knowledge came from my parents telling me things like "don't get into debt" and other pretty common concepts.

I learn a lot from my own mistakes, reading books, websites, some from things like CNBC, and others. I grew up really poor and set out at a young age to change that forever, not only for myself, but also for my family, and future family. My hobby and passion for finance turned into a future career. I'm now majoring in accounting, and minoring in economics and spanish, to work in finance.

Though I have a college degree, and MY CFP, like most people my common sense comes from my parents, my best education comes form my work experience and I have been lucky enough to work for a financial planning software company. We make and service a financial planning software packages for professional advisors called ExecPlan and ExecPlan Express. So most of my work years have been answer questions regarding professional planning so you learn about the small stuff all the time

I've learned a lot about finance this past year from reading various financial blogs and actually practicing what they teach like how to better organize my budget. I enjoy reading blogs and forums about finance because it teaches practicality when it comes to handling your money.
