Offshore banks are still quite secure. How long will it last, nobody knows

I would definitely stay away from Citibank and BofA. JPMorgan Chase and HSBC are pretty safe.

No bank is safe, even thought it could be that credit unions are safer, because they don't tend to invest wildly like the other banks.

My bank, PNC claims they are safe. I have not read or heard anything negative about their financial situation.

I found the perfect site to track earnings results. Question is, will the bank's "earnings" really hold? I bet they fall to losses by the 3rd QT.

What do the stress tests really mean?
BoA, WF, Citigroup failed. There were some that passed.
The govenment has said that they will not allow any of,
at least, the big banks, to fail. Is it just to give us some
data to verify that a bank is in trouble? I think we already knew
that.

I'd go for a bank with a "big" retail arm - basically too big to fail.
But if you're looking for investment - just stay away for now - let them clean their acts up first, there could still be some nasty surprises lurking.

Hello,

If anyone's interested, I have two things to say:

* On my blog (check me out for the urls) I've been reading about the cause of the financial catastrophe of 2008. I've got posts on my blog, read my take if you're interested.

* I'm also going to write some posts about how to analyze a bank. Even if you're not interested in buying bank stock, you might be interested in whether your bank is solvent. These days, solvency (not profitability) seems to be the most important issue, and there are ratios and benchmarks to check to be confident about whether your bank will be around tomorrow. The big banks may be too big to fail, but the neighborhood banks are definitely not. I'll be working on this in the next few weeks.

Best Wishes
